How do I know if companion care is right for me or my loved one?

If you or your loved one is experiencing loneliness or the feeling of isolation, home companion care might be right for you or them.

Is there a minimum or maximum number of hours I can book for companion care?

The number of hours for companion in home care will depend on your funding level, needs and availability.

If you self-manage, you will be responsible for sourcing your own support workers. Some independent support workers may have a minimum number of hours for a session; it is their decision to set these.

Can companion care help with light household tasks?

Unfortunately, companion care support work is in a different support category from light household tasks. You may be able to find a support worker who can provide both companion care and domestic support, which can be discussed when organising your initial support needs.

Can I request a companion who speaks my preferred language?

Self-managing aged care companion support means that you can find support workers who match your needs and preferences, including preferred language.

If you use Mable, which is part of the same group as HomeMade, to source support workers, you can use the language filter to find independent support workers who speak your preferred language.

How do I get started with companion care using my Support at Home funding?

In order to access companion care through a Support at Home funding, you will need to complete an aged care assessment that establishes your needs. If assessed as eligible, you can work with your aged care provider to establish what services will best meet your needs.
