Understanding Assistive Technology and Home Modifications funding

In this guide:

What is Assistive Technology and Home Modifications funding?

If you need changes made at home to help make it safer and more accessible, the government may provide funding for Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM). Funding is subject to individual assessment and approval as part of your Aged Care Assessment (ACAT).

This funding is in 2 categories for Support at Home participants:

Assistive technology
Equipment such as mobility aids, personal alarms, and bathroom equipment to help you live independently.

Home modifications
Changes to your home to make it safer and more accessible, such as grab rails, ramps or bathroom modifications.

How do I access AT-HM funding?

You will be assessed for AT-HM funding as part of your ACAT. If approved, this funding will be separate from your Support at Home quarterly funding.

Note: If you have unspent funds from your previous Home Care Package, these will be used before your new AT-HM funding.

Will I need to pay a contribution?

If you pay contributions on your Support at Home funding, you will also need to contribute to AT-HM purchases. Check your monthly statement to see what your current contribution percentage is, or ask your Care Partner before buying any AT-HM items to confirm.
